Standing seven feet tall, Derick Polk is a basketball legend whose journey from a single-parent household in the projects to professional leagues is truly inspiring. Starting at Cleveland Central Catholic High School, Derick excelled and later played for Arizona Western College and Ohio State University, facing off against legends like Michael Jordan. His career spanned international leagues, the CBA, and the Harlem Globetrotters, where he earned the nickname “Seven.”


After retiring in 1995, Derick remained active in basketball, coaching and running his AAU program. His faith, family, and passion for the sport continue to drive him. With a deep basketball legacy and a passion for mentoring, he is committed to developing character, teamwork, and self-confidence in young athletes.


He runs the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Derick Polk Sports is dedicated to youth development. We harness the power of sports to shape lives, instill core values, and foster personal growth.
